The History of Elan Marine

Elan has been building boats since 1949... starting first with kayaks and canoes of wood and rubber but in 1962 Elan began manufacturing boats from fiberglass - a material that was to bring about a revolution in the construction of yachts.

At the end of the 1960s, Elan was producing one-design yachts - Flying Junior, Racing Europe, S-430, S-425 and S-375.

In 1983, Elan introduced the J&J-designed Elan 31, a yacht that was not only large and luxurious for the time but proved itself invincible at a number of regattas in the Adriatic Sea and won the Half Ton World Championship in 1984.

The 1990s saw the emergence of larger yachts - the Elan 38 and the 431 - and the beginning of a an enduring relationship with acclaimed British naval architect, Rob Humphreys, who also designs all Oyster yachts.

Building on this racing pedigree, Elan entered the cruising market in 2004 with the introduction of the Elan Impression 434 of which over 200 have now been built.  The Elan Impression range has gained awards in both the USA and in Europe in 2006 and 2007, and the new Impression 514 has been nominated for Yacht of the Year in Europe.

This cruising range has impressed owners with truly spacious interiors and excellent seaworthiness, and now includes four models from 34' to 51'.
