Astondoa 67 OPEN sea trial in
Spain

Astondoa continues to extend the size range in their Open series and
the newly introduced flagship of this range - the 67 OPEN - was the feature yacht on
the stand at the Barcelona Boat Show in November 2007.
During a visit to the
factory in June 2008, we had the opportunity to see several 67 OPEN
models under construction and to go out on a sea trial on an early
hull.
The 67 OPEN used in the sea trial was an owner's boat, fully
equipped and provisioned, and had not been specially prepared for
the sea trial. So it was particularly impressive to see that
once in open water and with the turbos spinning on the MAN diesels
we were able to easily reach a top speed of 47kts (54 MPH).
The
boat tracked well and turned cleanly, even sharply, when asked to do
so. At all speeds the boat rode very comfortably, with minimal
bow rise during acceleration, and was quiet, solid and vibration
free.
The only real
indication of the speed we were running at was the respectable
rooster tail behind us from the surface drive propellers...
There are three engine
options for the Astondoa 67 OPEN:
-
2 x
MAN V10 CRM 1100HP, with either standard shafts
or surface drives; or
-
2 x
MAN V12 CRM 1225HP with surface drives; or, for
maximum performance
-
2 x
MAN V12 CRM 1360HP with surface drives
