Elan 450 - latest photos

The new Elan 450 rocket-ship was photographed recently on a rather boisterous day of sailing.

Although a fully-fledged racing machine, the Elan 450 can be sailed competently and fast by a crew of only two with the standard sail plan, even when the breeze picks up, as can be seen in the pictures below from a recent photo shoot.

In these conditions, the advantages of the Elan 450's twin rudder set-up are apparent, offering good grip and easy control.  The boat has an impressive sail plan with tall fractional rig, swept aft double spreaders, large main and non-overlapping headsail.  An optional large gennaker (seen below) is flown from a retractable bow sprit, a convenience for racing and cruising crews alike, allowing a spinnaker or genaker to be flown well clear of the bow.

And all this performance in a boat that boasts a complete and stylish interior...!
