Lagoon 400 hull #1 sailing
On March 25, the Lagoon 400 sailed for the first time, in Les Sables d'Olonne, France. Sailing conditions were 18 to 23 knots wind, 3 to 5 foot seas, perfect conditions to sea trial the latest model from the drawing board of designers VPLP.
First impressions: a comfortable ride at sea, very little pitching and speeds that quickly reached about 7.5 knots at 50 to 55° from the true wind. Helm surprisingly responsive for a catamaran of this size, with good feedback making tacking and gybing very quick and easy.
Two weeks of further intensive sea trials are scheduled in Les Sables d'Olonne, before hull # 1 is handed over to the sales and marketing team for press and customers sea trials. The first production boats will be launched from the beginning of May with official public presentation of the Lagoon 400 projected to be at the September and October 2009 boatshows in Europe and North America.
